On November 1, 2016, in the Steam client beta patch, Valve announced the addition of Steam configurator support to the PS4 (beta) DualShock 4 controller on the PC. More than a month later, on December 14 of the same year, the new Steam client update announcement confirmed this.

To use your PS4 DualShock 4 controller on Steam, you need to have the following conditions:

It should be emphasized that this only allows you to use your controller in games in Steam and the Steam library (although the controller support may Will be different). If you want to use your controller outside of Steam games, you need to skip to our "How to make a PS4 controller run on a PC" section.

Important note: Do not connect the PS4 controller to the computer for now.

This should be self explanatory, but if you are completely new to Steam, check out our handy guide here, which contains all the information you need to know about the platform.

Go to Steam> Check Steam Client Update to see if Steam has been updated. By default, Steam should automatically update to the latest version after logging in, but it's worth making sure you have the latest version. Check out a more detailed guide on how to do this here.

Click the square icon next to your Steam username to enter large picture mode as shown.

Click the gear icon in the upper right corner in the large image mode.

Click Driver Configuration in the Drivers section.

Check the PlayStation configuration support box. If you have an Xbox controller, you can choose to check the Xbox settings support option, if you have a universal controller, you can choose to check the universal gamepad settings support option.

Use the Micro USB cable that comes with the host to connect the PS4 controller to the computer. You should hear a "bloop" sound, indicating that the device has been detected. Or, if you turn on the vibrate option, your PS4 controller should vibrate. You should also see that your controller has been detected, as shown in the following figure:

Note: If the PS4 system your controller is synced to is still connected, then if you press the PS button, your controller may attempt to connect

If it is detects your controller, everything is ready to go! You can play it wirelessly or via cable, depending on your preferences. Of course, if you play wirelessly, don't forget to pay attention to the battery level.

In addition to connecting just your PS4 controller, you can also customize your experience. When

is still in Steam's big screen mode, in the controller settings, click the newly detected controller to customize the controller, and then click the "Preferences" button on the right. Operations you can perform here include:

Making your PS4 controller run directly on your PC is a bit more difficult than doing it on Steam.

You will need to install software called DS4Windows and make minor adjustments to trick your Windows PC into thinking that you are connecting to an Xbox 360 controller.

What you need:

Note: If you haven't already, be sure to download and install a file archiving utility for Windows software, such as WinRAR. You will need it to unzip the zip file for DS4Windows.

Unzip the downloaded DS4Windows zip file.

Open DS4Windows.exe. If this is your first use, the system will ask you where to save the configuration file and settings. You can choose Program Folder or Application Data, but I recommend Program Folder, because this is where this sort of thing usually goes; just for consistency.

Click the "Step 1: Install DS4 Driver" button to install the required PS4 driver on Windows 8.1 operating system and later computers.

Only when you are using Windows 7 or an earlier version of the operating system, click the button "Step 2: If you are on Windows 7 or an earlier version, please install the 360 driver", because the operating system does not come with the driver 360 required to run the DS4 controller. Otherwise, skip it and proceed to the next step below.

After the installation is completed, click Finish and connect the PS4 controller to the PC via the micro USB cable.

The controller tab in DS4Windows should show the Xbox 360 controller. Otherwise, click the stop button in the lower right corner to close the DS4Windows application, and then reopen the DS4Windows application.

Alternatively, you can unplug the controller and plug it in again. If all other methods fail, try a different cable.

If you want to sync your PS4 controller from here, just open the DS4Windows application and it will recognize your controller when plugged in.

If you want to customize your DS4 controller, please refer to how to customize your controller using the DS4Windows application below

The controller displays a double blink pattern.

Note: If the PS4 system your controller syncs with is still connected, then if you press the PS button, your controller may try to connect to it.

Click on the wireless controller to pair your PS4 controller with the wireless USB dongle or your laptop's built-in Bluetooth device.

Note: For Windows 7 and earlier users, if this is the case, you may be prompted to enter the pairing code, just enter "0000".

After the devices are paired, click Finish. To confirm that the PS4 controller is connected, check the light bar on top of the controller as it should be on. Alternatively, the driver tab in the DS4Windows window should detect the driver.

Now that you have connected the PS4 controller, you can also customize your controller according to your preferences. All you have to do is go to the "Profiles" tab in the DS4Windows application.

is different from customizing your PS4 controller on Steam, you can use the DS4Windows app to do a lot of customization, for example:
