SolidWorks has become one of the best known names in the 3D modeling industry due to its excellent user experience, innovative functions and features. The first version of
SolidWorks was released in November 95, followed by an annual update, and finally SolidWorks 2020 was released in September 2019.
Since SolidWorks is used to create design and engineering models, the system requirements represent the basic specifications of the PC to run the program. More complex 3D modeling always requires more resources, so when reviewing system requirements, consider the scope of what you want to achieve with SolidWorks.
In general, you need at least a professional-grade PC to run SolidWorks, at least a dual-core CPU clocked at up to 3.3 GHz, and a professional-grade GPU from the NVIDIA Quadro series or AMD Pro series. The
hard drive requirements vary depending on how you use SolidWorks. For security reasons, we recommend that you choose at least 50 GB.
Regarding the amount of RAM, please, as high as possible. Modeling has a huge impact on memory, so going to 32GB or more will pay off at the end of complex projects.
Although we focus on building sets, we recommend our $ 5,000 build as a solid foundation to run reliable jobs. It is equipped with the best AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU, 64GB of 3600MHz DDR4 RAM, 2TB NVMe 4.0 SSD, and 4TB HDD.
Our build runs on GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Unfortunately SolidWorks is not compatible with the GeForce series. We recommend replacing it with Quadro GV100, Quadro GP100 or Quadro M6000 24GB. Besides the GPU, the system is also well suited for getting the most out of SolidWorks and handling some ambitious design projects.
