After reviewing the Samsung Odyssey G9 (an impressive 49-inch gaming monitor), we couldn't help but buy its younger brother G7. This monitor is equipped with all the speed and response you need to take your game to the next level. It provides a 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and color accuracy, which may make some creator monitors worthwhile.

G7 also offers HDR600, an incredible "gaming" aesthetic, and uses a QHD 1440p QLED display. This thing literally has it all.

had a very good first impression of this monitor. It seems important and it doesn't go too far to the point where the aesthetic starts to look tacky or elegant. The 1000R curvature adjustment scene, separated by a large V-shaped bracket, clearly contrasts with the smoothness of the display curve. At the bottom of the screen, we find two zones of RGB light, creating a subtle atmosphere when we use the G7 at night.

When we moved to the back of the monitor, the game theme continued, showing a rotating RGB area that I had never seen before. Like the Samsung G9, 7 also showcased a well-positioned headphone holder that can be stored well in the holder when not in use. The monitor offers cable management options and the inlay is exposed after unlocking the housing from the stand, allowing for easy cable routing.

Overall, from a design point of view, you can't really call this monitor. It looks absolutely amazing. I was impressed by the build quality of the

G7, but again, it's a $ 700 monitor, you won't expect anything. The stand feels strong and supportive, providing all the rigidity necessary to ensure a safe and comfortable viewing experience. The frame structure of the

screen is exquisite and there are no gaps between the panel and the frame itself; This has affected other brands of displays for some time. Although the screen is made mostly of plastic, it still feels very sturdy compared to other screens of similar design. The bracket works perfectly and provides excellent versatility and adjustment capabilities when needed; we'll cover it in more detail later.

Like most modern displays, the Samsung Odyssey G7 has an anti-reflective coating with a hardness of 3H. It does a great job of reducing daylight, allowing you to focus on what's most important, which is play.

That being said, due to the 1000R curvature, if you have a particularly strong light source causing some reflection issues, it will be difficult to move the screen to a position that eliminates the problem.

Due to the design of the G7, the frame feels very independent. That is, its size is approximately 10 mm (top and sides), which is almost twice the size of the bottom (21 mm).

Unlike the G9 we recently tested, the G7 bracket provides more rigidity and adjustability. The

V-shaped base is very wide and gives the monitor all the stability it might need. In other words, this means that you need a fairly large table to use this monitor comfortably.

As mentioned above, the back of the stand is unlocked to reveal the cable management options and the headphone stand. After managing the cables, you just need to reopen the bracket case.

In terms of adjustability, users can expect the following: The adjustability of the

Before discussing the results, it is worth mentioning that the Samsung Odyssey G7 has been pre-calibrated in the custom preset. Brightness

100, contrast

, contrast 75, R/G/B value 50/50/50. The brightness far exceeds the recommended brightness and dropped to 120 candela in our standardized tests. The

custom settings out of the box show the best color accuracy of the available presets. It has an almost perfect white point and an extremely low black depth of 0.0496 cd/m². The contrast is almost the same as in the advertisement (2500:1), the average delta is 2.18, and the custom preset undoubtedly provides good colors out of the box.

We soon switched to sRGB, and to my surprise, the brightness is adjustable in this particular preset, a setting that is not always available on the current monitor. In addition to brightness, sRGB also provides very accurate color reproduction. The white point is perfect on IDEAL (6632K), and the depth of black is excellent again. The contrast is slightly lower than the advertising mark (0.0504 cd/m²), and the gamma value is the same as the customized one. In summary, sRGB finally got the best average increment (1.95) of any preset we tested. If you are looking for the best experience out of the box, we recommend sRGB.

Finally, we have FPS mode. Unsurprisingly, this is the worst of all the presets we tested, measuring the white point (7716K) and the high point of the average increment (2.86). It also provides the worst contrast and black depth (2121:1). In other words, the FPS mode shows the best gamma reading of 2.09, which is closest to the IDEAL number 2.2.

After completing the first color accuracy test, we concluded that customization is the most suitable configuration out of the box. It provides an excellent color experience and is only beaten by sRGB on delta average, not too much.

Before we do a more comprehensive color test, we quickly check the gloss range. The maximum brightness is 308.81 cd / m² and the lowest is 53.17 cd / m². To obtain 120 cd / m², we must lower the brightness to 25.

Then test every two squares to see how different it is from the reference value. In an ideal world, we want each square to be green, which means that it does not exceed the difference threshold; we can set it at the beginning of the test.

After the success of the Samsung G9, I have high hopes for the uniformity of the G7's panel. However, it is not. After the

uniformity test was complete, the first thing I noticed was the red dot on the right side of the panel (the part of the screen that exceeded the maximum threshold we set). Most of the time panels of this caliber shake in the corners, however on our G7 the area most affected is on the right side and in the middle.

What is also striking is the large number of amber squares that we see on this panel. More than half of the squares in the G7 are classified as amber, which means that only 33% of the uniformity across the panel is acceptable; if you're honest that's not cool.

When it comes to the VA panel, the viewing angle of the Samsung G7 is not the worst in the world. In other words, when viewing this panel from an angle of about 30 degrees or higher, there are obvious signs of backlight bleeding. Although these are not so obvious in daily wear, they do play an important role when watching dark movies or game scenes.

I loaded up a fast paced first person shooter game first to really test the G7. Of course, this is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. I started a quick game of deathmatch, a game mode with a lot of moving objects, the first thing I noticed was the fluidity of the game. Just moving my crosshairs on the map is very smooth. I played a few rounds and it was obvious that jumping the refresh rate from 144 to 240Hz made a significant difference. Although the jump is not as impressive as 60Hz to 144Hz, it is still obvious.

Remember, if you want to get the most out of this monitor, you need to keep 240 frames per second constant, not to mention that if you want full native resolution, you should also use DisplayPort 1.4.

Regardless of these factors, Samsung G7 offers an excellent overall gaming experience. This QLED display is not only full of energy and depth, but also provides excellent color reproduction. We brought "Tomb Raider: Shadow" to play, and the HDR effect is very good. The bright areas are still full of detail, as are the darker shadows of caves and rocky terrain.
