For many custom fabricators wanting to enter trench or water cooling hoses, hard pipes are a reliable way to add some extra talent to the system. However, there are different materials to choose from, which can get confusing for beginners: PETG vs acrylic tube, which one should I choose?

In our PC portfolio, we have more options than ever, making it easier for beginners to include difficult options. Acrylic remains one of the most popular piping options as it provides a transparency that is closer to glass. PETG (polyethylene terephthalate) is much easier to use, but it doesn't have exactly the same amazing factors compared to acrylic.

You may have guessed it, but there is no wrong answer here. Both types of pipelines provide very similar results, and they both work in a similar way. So why was the question of acrylic and PETG raised in the first place? Well, there are some subtle differences that will affect your personal preferences, especially if you are unfamiliar with water-cooled computers.

As mentioned above, acrylic tube is the most widely used, with its look and feel closest to glass and excellent transparency. Compared with PETG, acrylic is harder and easier to break. However, acrylic is stronger in other ways and has a higher melting point, making it more durable when your system is heated. The disadvantage is that acrylic tubes are more difficult to bend and cut, so bending takes longer to reach the melting point, and the material is too brittle for basic tools. The

acrylic tube allows less water penetration than PETG, which means you don't have to refill the cycle as often. Acrylic is also more resistant to scratches, stains, and reflects more light, so your tube looks more beautiful. Many water cooling enthusiasts avoid using

PETG to some extent, but for those unfamiliar with the art of custom water cooling PCs,

PETG is an excellent choice. PETG is an excellent material for beginners because it is cheaper and easier to use. The lower melting point makes it easier to bend and repair mistakes. The transparency of PETG tube is less than acrylic, but it is not as good as you think, but it is easier to tint, so it is not compatible with as many acrylic refrigerants.

You can cut PETG tubes with basic tools, and due to its durability, it can handle the material very roughly. If the coolant in your system gets too hot due to overclocking or pump failure, unfavorable factors will arise that can warp the pipes, cause bulging and, in extreme cases, lead to leaks.

PETG and acrylic are good materials for your next water cooling circuit. Which material you decide to use is ultimately up to your own preferences, but PETG can't visually compete with acrylic in the long run. PETG is suitable for beginners, but if you can learn to cut and bend PETG, then learning the process with acrylic is almost the same, but you will need some additional tools.

Of course, acrylic is a bit brittle and easy to break, but you just need to handle it carefully and not throw it away. Personally, I would choose acrylic in my system because of how good the coolant looks inside, and the extra internal lighting around the frame reflects off the surface in a more vivid way.

Therefore, if you are new to rigid pipes and want to operate more easily, PETG is a good choice, but for uncompromising appearance quality and less chance of warping, acrylic pipes will gain a great advantage. The appearance of the new water-cooled PC.
