Today is the day when we can finally sit down with BenQ’s epic EX3501R ultra-wide monitor to see how it performs under the pressure of the WePC test light. The people at BenQ sent one in kindly, and we can’t wait to see how it compares to other premium ultra-wide monitors such as Alienware’s AW3418DW and LG’s 34GK950FB.

BenQ’s 35-inch ultra-wide display is another excellent addition to the already small display market. It brings high-end features such as HDR, high resolution, fast refresh rate and B.I technology. It has some minor drawbacks, but in most cases, it is one of the best gaming monitors we tested this year.

If you are looking for a large screen with beautiful color accuracy and excellent gaming performance, the EX3501R may be just what you need. But be careful, like most high-end monitors; this price tag is as big as its screen.

Now, before we get into the specifications and features of this monitor, let's quickly review how we tested it. We always want to assure our readers that our ideas and suggestions are based on real-world evidence. Having said that, how do we test the BenQ EX3501R?

We have tested a number of advanced monitors at WePC, so when BenQ decided to ship the EX3501R to us, we were ready to give it a go. Once we have finished capturing the stock image, the monitor will be sent to the review team. We just took the monitor out of the box and it was pretty cool. The stand can be adjusted vertically, about 2.5 inches, with a tilt radius of 20 degrees, which is sufficient for the monitor on one side. It has zero steering, which is a bit disappointing, but it doesn't really degrade the quality of the display. In general, the stand feels as solid as a rock, and I noticed that the screen shakes very little during the game.

Speaking of appearance, this monitor is absolutely gorgeous. The embedded ultra-thin frame occupies only 10 mm of the screen, which is very competitive compared with other ultra-wide frames of the same price. Having such a small frame also helps to create a more immersive experience while gaming. The stand is made of chrome-plated plastic, and the matte gray aesthetic that blends with the rest of the display is very good. Oh, let's not forget the terrible 1800R curvature. It really adds to the style of this monitor, which is very suitable for games and movies. I am full of praise for the design of this monitor, it is very suitable for my workspace and will definitely add style to anyone's setup.

From a color point of view, the display effect of BenQ EX3501R is very good

Standard RGB spectrum (sRGB), but it has not yet fully reached the 90 IP3 level that we expect for HDR displays. That said, it still provides 80% of P3 and most of the colors needed for Ultra HD Blu-ray.

We tested the monitor in many different games, including CS: GO, PUBG, Shadow of the Tomb, Far Cry 5, and The Witcher 3. These all look great. We hooked up the EX3501R to version 3900x / RADEON

5700XT to take advantage of FreeSync technology, and it didn't disappoint. Even though we played Far Cry 5 at a high setting of about 40FPS, we still did not find any screen tearing or ghosting. The 100Hz refresh rate is very fast for everyday/uncompetitive gamers. However, it is worth mentioning that you will need a fairly powerful PC to drive the frame rate you need to make the most of this monitor. However, if this is not a problem, you will like to use this monitor.
