About a year ago, AMD agreed to provide RDNA graphics architecture for future Samsung chipsets. This strategic partnership aims to bring "ultra-low power consumption, high-performance graphics" to mobile SoCs.
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su said of the partnership: “The adoption of our Radeon graphics technology in the PC, game console, cloud and HPC markets has grown significantly. Accelerate innovation in the graphics mobile market.”
Although we have not seen the specific products of this partnership, we have heard that chipsets are becoming a reality.
recently confirmed the existence of Samsung's chipset using AMD GPU technology in the benchmark data tested by GFXBench. It seems that the engineers are finally starting to test the new chip. Samsung’s
SoC and Qualcomm’s Adreno 650 GPU were benchmarked. Adreno 650 is currently the flagship GPU used by the Snapdragon 865 5G mobile platform.
The following figure shows the benchmark test results: The
benchmark test shows that Samsung SoC is significantly better than Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU. The
benchmark test also emphasized that the new RDNA-based AMD GPU will give Samsung SoC an advantage in 3D graphics processing. For Samsung, this looks like a very promising step in the future.
Although these benchmark tests may reveal some interesting details, we still don't know when these chipsets will be launched on the market.
There are rumors that Samsung's Exynos 1000 series will be a good candidate for the new GPU. This means that we will see this AMD GPU sometime next year. However, this is an unconfirmed rumor, so we cannot say if it is accurate.
