That being said, though, the dual-GPU train seems to have left the station in recent years, and recent PC makers and enthusiasts have avoided it altogether.

In the end, although it is still a feature that the X470 motherboard has over the B450, it is not as useful as it used to be.

Next, we have the availability of SATA III. Again, this is another area where the X470 motherboard wins. As can be seen from the above table, only two SATA IIIs are available for the B450 motherboard. In contrast, the number of X470s is twice that of four, which means they have more support for faster SATA interfaces.

Basically, for those who are still using SATA SSD, HDD or optical drives, the X470 will host two additional 6Gbps SATA connections on top of the B450. I think this might help some people, but in most cases, it seems a bit trivial.

Finally, we have a price. As with most hardware components, price plays an important role in the difference between X470 and B450 motherboards. As you might imagine, the price of the X470 motherboard is higher. Why? For the reasons we just pointed out above. They have more accessible PCIe channels, more SATA III options, and can support dual GPU configurations.
