One of the most exciting parts of the next-generation console release is to understand exactly what the new technology might contain. We already know that both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will use graphics cards based on AMD's RDNA 2 architecture, but can we see dedicated graphics cards appear before game consoles?
Many people worry that due to the current economic climate, we may start to see some delays. However, AMD’s Chief Financial Officer Devinder Kumar recently confirmed that AMD “is expected to launch our next-generation Zen 3 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU before the end of 2020”.
The first RDNA 2 product on the market will actually be the long-awaited Navi 2 GPU, which has been hinted at for several months. Since both next-gen consoles use the same series of GPUs, it is important to remember that they will not use the "Big Navi" card itself.
At first glance, this means that if we first see the Navi 2 GPU landing, and this is not the content of the new game console, then it seems that we will definitely see these GPU lands before the actual game console. Based on the game console's planned release schedule, this may be sometime in September or October.
It's too early to tell. Although it will be based on the same architecture, it will not be the same graphics card as the console. It may also be because it is targeting the PC market. Therefore, providing the best performance will be more powerful. If
releases match, Big Navi will compete with Nvidia's next-gen Ampere GPU. This may mean that the first GPUs we see of this generation will be the best and most expensive at powering benchmark data.
This also means that we may see some of the upcoming GPUs starting to match the price of next-gen gaming consoles. Of course, this is something that cannot really be promoted in the game console market because it needs to cut costs for consumers.
However, we can understand how the architecture is built and how it works. For now, we will continue to pay attention to more news about these important releases on WePC. When we hear about them, be sure to check back for more updates.
