A new leak provides a new perspective on the chip size of AMD's next-generation Big Navi products. It is provided by AquariusZi, a trusted user on the PC Transportation Forum. In particular, the focus of the leak is the expectation of the AMD RX 5950 XT, which is a flagship 7-nanometer GPU that will reportedly use a huge 505 square millimeter chip, which shows that the performance of the RX is twice that of the existing 5700 XT.

At the same time, leaks indicate that AMD’s Navi 22 and Navi 23 GPUs will use 340mm2 and 240mm2 chips. Navi 23 is expected to replace RX 5700 XT, which has a chip size of 251 square millimeters. As the source pointed out, to be safe, it is best to take into account the margin of error of 5mm2.

Although the RX 5700 XT has 40 compute units, based on these chip size rumors, the Navi 21 GPU is expected to be able to increase it to 80 compute units. We should also consider the jump from RDNA1 to RDNA2, which will naturally improve performance greatly.

Although this is still speculative, it is worth considering that these estimates assume that the entire chip will be dedicated to the shader core. If AMD chooses to install dedicated ray tracing hardware, we can expect the number of CUs to decrease. However, the RDNA2 architecture and huge array size mean twice the performance.

As for when we can hear the official news from AMD, all signs are that it will be announced in the coming months. Recently, BRA certifications for AMD cards have emerged and benchmarks have also appeared on CubeVR. Similarly, the recent RRA certification for a large series of GPUs shows that four GPU code names appear in the EEC file. They are Radeon RX 5950 XT, Radeon RX5950, Radeon RX 5900, and Radeon RX 5800.

Given that NVIDIA is expected to launch the Ampere GPU next month, AMD may do the same soon.
