In addition to AMD's highly anticipated Threadripper CPU and high-performance 1080p gaming GPU, there is another impressive addition to its hardware library. The new Ryzen 4000 series laptop processor. The new
laptop chip will be based on the Zen 2 architecture, manufactured by TSMC at the 7 nanometer node. AMD announced that the third-generation 4000 series chips will be implemented in all form factors, with three specific CPUs designed for specific groups of people. The
Useries processor will be designed for ultrathin laptops, the H series processors will be aimed at gamers and creators, and the Pro series will be used in ultrathin professional laptops. The
processor is designed to work with a new technology called SmartShift, which dynamically powers the CPU and GPU to optimize performance based on the type of tasks you perform.
AMD's 4800U will become the flagship notebook CPU in the new product line, equipped with 8 cores and 16 threads. The chip will have a higher clock speed of 4.2GHz and a base frequency of 1.8GHz. These numbers are impressive when you consider that the power comes from a 15-watt chip. The
4800U chip is compared to Intel’s Core i71065G7 CPU; however, according to recent AMD tests, the Ryzen 7’s multi-threading performance has improved by 90% compared to its competitors, which is impressive.
4800H, designed for gamers and creators, has a set of specifications similar to 4800U. It is equipped with 8 cores, 16 threads and an increased clock speed of 4.2GHz.
This processor is said to provide faster performance than its 95-watt desktop processor competitors with 45 watts of power.
Historically, AMD components have not been favored by notebook computer manufacturers. However, this trend may change in 2020.
AMD promises to launch more than a dozen laptops equipped with Ryzen 4000 in the first quarter of 2020 alone, and it is expected that the number will exceed 100 by the end of this year. Very bold to say the least.
AMD even named several laptops that can accommodate its new CPU, Lenovo’s Slim 7 can accommodate Ryzen 4000 users.
gamers will be happy to see that the Hseries Ryzen 4000 chip implemented in ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is scheduled to be released in February this year.
