AOC monitors have become increasingly popular in recent years, mainly due to their perfect balance between performance and price. In the last 12 months, we reviewed your best monitors, of which AOC CQ27G2 is the last to enter our test platform.

CQ27G2 is the latest product in the G series, replacing the popular AOC CQ27G1 launched in summer 2019. It offers the same 1440p, 1ms, 144hz VA panel as its predecessor and a very similar design. That said, it provides better color accuracy, a wider color gamut, and more immersive curves than first-gen alternatives, not to mention FreeSync Premium.

With that said, in the next article, we will have a more complete understanding of AOC CQ27G2 and see how it works on the flagship products on the market.

AOC CQ27G2 is packaged in a small box, showing the marketing photos of the screen and its main external functions. Inside, the monitor is not assembled or packaged separately to ensure safe transportation. The stand attaches to the back of the monitor and the base is screwed in with thumbscrews. If necessary, it can be tightened with a screwdriver, but it is not necessary. Each part of the display is wrapped in a foam-like covering and a styrofoam shell.

is designed wisely. Compared with the previous generation CQ27G1 and CQ32G1, AOC does not seem to do anything. I mean, it's not terrible, but it seems a bit lazy to make the second-generation lineup of this panel exactly the same design. Having said that, I still think this panel looks good.

The red and black themes were reused, and the bottom edge of the frame and around the bottom of the bracket flashed red. The "V"-shaped bracket contrasts sharply with the 1500R curvature of the panel, giving it a charming but subtle gaming aesthetic. The AOC logo can be seen on the front of the panel, and the edges are almost frameless.

The back of this monitor does not have much design features, there are some red arrows and capital AOC logo on the back. That being said, there is a cable management cutout on the bracket that provides some functions. In general, a basic design hasn't changed for a while, it's a bit lazy for me. The

CQ27G2 is a bit unexpected in terms of build quality; this is what we normally expect from inexpensive panels. Although there are no obvious build flaws, it still feels less premium compared to more expensive products. The plastic used for the bracket and the back of the panel doesn't feel too strong, and neither does the bracket mechanism. In addition, the accessories used for USB and the display input also look terrible - many connectors are exposed from the case.

On the bright side, metal is used inside the bracket, and the plastic structure around the surface of the panel feels sturdy. The stand does not provide too much shaking, which is always a good thing for players trying to sneak into the game.

In general, there is nothing to say about the build quality of this monitor. For the price, it is not terrible, nor is it great. This is more or less what you expect.

Like many modern panels, CQ27G2 has an anti-reflective coating with a matte finish. It does a good job of lightening the light source; however, for such curved panels, it may be more troublesome than flat alternatives. In addition, it is easily stained with fingerprints and greasy.

The frame on this panel is very good and belongs to the "immersive" category that I categorize. They have a nearly frameless design with dimensions of 8 mm (side and top) and 22 mm (bottom). Comparing it to other alternatives at this price, you must say that this monitor performs well in comparison.

Take a look at the bracket, it provides you with everything you need for a curved panel. To be honest, you didn't use the curved 27-inch for the shrink drive, you are ... did you? It has suitable rotation and height adjustment functions, allowing you to position this monitor according to your exact requirements. In other words,

The back is a bit messy. However, the bracket provides a good cutout for cable management, helping to keep the cable tidy.

Finally, we have a screen display. As always, AOC's OSD controls are really a headache. Even when viewing poorly executed labels on the front, navigating the menu is still very difficult. It is a miracle to navigate the menu smoothly without pressing the wrong button.

Having said that, the OSD itself provides many functions, including all common colors, contrast, and brightness. In addition, users have a game menu in the OSD that allows them to select custom color profiles, configure overloads, and switch between adaptive synchronization settings.

In general, OSD has everything you expect, including AOC's poor button focus.

Historically, AOC is not the most trusted brand in terms of color accuracy and color gamut coverage. However, as part of the intergenerational leap between first and second generation Gline displays, AOC assures us that the color accuracy and color gamut of these new panels have been improved.

We'll test it in the next section - look at color accuracy, color gamut coverage / volume, panel uniformity, and maximum brightness.

works out of the box and I was very surprised by the accuracy of the colors. The CQ27G2 is set to "warm color" at the factory, with a brightness of 170

candela, which exceeds the recommended brightness for extended use. This profile provides excellent white balance, pure black depth (0.0551), and a fairly good average DeltaE (1.65). The contrast in this profile is slightly lower than the 2192:1 VA average, but overall, this profile is very accurate.

We quickly changed it to sRGB and ran the same test. Unfortunately, like other AOC products, using the sRGB profile will lock the brightness setting, in this case 170 candela. In other words, this preset color profile is very good. It provides nearly perfect white point, deep black depth and excellent contrast (3113:1). It also provides the lowest mean DeltaE score and a

gamma of 2.29.

After this we ran two game presets and as expected the color accuracy dropped dramatically. Game presets often affect color accuracy. You will often see oversaturated colors in these presets to try and make the game look more exciting; for some people, this is to their liking.

However, from an accuracy standpoint, these profiles are terrible. The average DeltaE of 4.49 and 4.3 sets the scene. Both presets have high gamma values, and the contrast and black depth between the two are different. In general, the Gamer 1 preset is the more accurate of the two, which can be clearly seen by looking at the screen.

We ran the most accurate preset (sRGB) through a more comprehensive color test to see what the largest DeltaE displays. What is impressive is that the largest color deviation is recorded as 3.48, which is almost imperceptible to the human eye. The average DeltaE stays at an impressive 0.96, enough for accurate work of most colors in the sRGB color spectrum.

Setting the panel in the "custom" mode of the calibration profile is a fairly straightforward task. We had to drastically change the RGB settings before calibration: R 49, G 43, B 52. After

calibration, it scored higher in all tests. The average DeltaE of CQ27G2 is 0.48 and the maximum DeltaE is 1.91, which is very accurate after calibration.

Panel Uniformity is a test we run to verify the brightness and color uniformity of the entire screen. During this test, the central square was used as the reference space. Then test every two squares to see how different it is from the reference.

In an ideal world, we want each square to be green, which means that it does not exceed the difference threshold; we can set it at the beginning of the test.

Note: Results will vary from panel to panel.

As can be seen from the figure above, the uniformity of the CQ27G2 panel is not that bad. Most of the central squares are very uniform; there will be small errors when you approach the corners. It appears that the entire top row is classified as amber, as are the three corners. That said, compared to other panels in this price range, the CQ27G2 actually performed quite well.

Like many other displays that use VA panels, the viewing angle of the AOC CQ27G2 is not ideal. After about 35 degrees, the color will start to change quite a bit, removing any depth of color that you normally see. This monitor is not suitable for viewing by multiple people.

When comparing this monitor to its predecessor, the CQ27G2U iteration has accurate color grade and coverage of color are better. The sRGB coverage and volume are quite good, and the volume (129.8%) exceeds AOC's evaluation of this monitor. The

Playing FPS games with this thing is definitely a kind of enjoyment. The 144Hz refresh rate means that gameplay feels smooth and fluid, and fast pixel response time support ensures no ghosting. As with all variable refresh rate monitors, we made sure that FreeSync Premium runs in all games, to ensure there are no screen clutter when playing super high FPS games (like CS: GO).

CS: GO is a great monitor test kit, mainly because it pushes all areas of the monitor to the limit. Due to the sharp drop in FPS, screen tearing is usually a problem; however, this is not the case on this monitor. In addition, for fast-moving objects that contrast sharply with a pale background, slower panels often exhibit ghosting. Although we did see some ghosting, the lockable overload setting in the OSD solved most of the problems. We tested overload in all of its settings, and as expected, medium intensity is a pleasant middle ground for crisp, no-overload sharpness.

I skipped a few story-based games to see how effective the 1500R curved screen can immerse you in the game. The result is great. Although this is just a small panel, the 1500R allows you to be more immersed in the virtual world. It feels great to play Red Dead 2 and SOTTR. The shape of the panel gives people an immersive feeling, which is simply not replicated by a flat panel. In addition, with excellent colors out of the box, panoramic photos and landscape scenes are more realistic.

This really brings us to performance. As we said in the specs, this monitor is a 1440p panel, which means you'll need a fairly powerful device to take advantage of its full potential. Fortunately, the variable refresh rate ranges from 48hz to 144hz; this means that your FPS can be as low as 48 frames per second, and you will experience the same smoothness. However, this still cannot change the fact that reaching the upper end of this range will require a decent PC to boot.

In general, I really like playing games on this monitor. I'm a huge CS: GO gamer, so playing at 144Hz is an absolute must. However, one thing that I am not too excited about is the curve. I've used a lot of curved panels before, and they seem to take away some of the advantages of competitive gaming. It is difficult to explain, but flat screens seem to be more suitable for esports games; maybe it's just me.

So there you have it, our full review of the AOC CQ27G2, which is one of the most affordable 1440p, 144Hz monitors on the market. Looking at this monitor from a value standpoint, it must be said that it is a good choice for those who want to enjoy 1440p screen clarity without sacrificing speed or response speed. The AOC CQ27G2 is priced at US $ 350 and is very reasonably priced, lower than many outstanding features on the market. In addition, it offers curved panels, great ready-to-use colors, and a wide range of colors that can be activated. Overall, it should say that this monitor has a lot of good boxes checked. Admittedly, it doesn't provide the best build quality in the world, but it doesn't really take anything from this panel.
