Amd says 4gb vram not enough

AMD recently announced that 4GB GPUs just aren't enough to run modern games. They shared a chart highlighting the significant performance improvement of GPUs with more than 4GB of VRAM.

In the picture, the 4GB and 8GB versions of the Radeon RX 5500 XT were tested while running several different modern games. In all games tested, the 8GB version has a performance increase of at least 12%, and in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, it is up to 24%.

Although the performance improvement may be relatively small for some games, for modern games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, this is a major improvement that cannot be ignored.

VRAM or video RAM is very important for PC games because the PC uses separate memory pools for the CPU and GPU. If your GPU cannot access the data in the VRAM, you must extract the data from the CPU through the PCIe bus. Although PCIe 4.0 is fast, it is different from having a considerable amount of GDDR6 RAM.

Therefore, lower VRAM will affect performance, but it depends on the type of game you are playing.

This is not to say that you need to panic if your GPU only has 4GB of VRAM. In most cases, the game will still run at 4GB,

, but some modern games in the future may need to reject certain settings. Investing in a GPU with 8GB of VRAM may be a better way to prepare your system for the future.

However, it depends on the type of game you are playing. If you usually play games with lower system requirements, it may not be worth investing in better VRAM at this time. In this case, any performance improvement will be minimal. However, if you always play the latest games, have high system requirements, and want them to be at high or ultra settings, then 8GB may be a good investment for your next graphics card.

Do you think 8GB of VRAM is the future? Will it be upgraded to 8GB for this reason in the future? Please share your thoughts below.
